Starting a Domain
Deeks.biz

The most complicated network you can set-up, is a Domain. The reason for this is that DHCP, DNS, WINS, IIS and all the things you are going to use must be setup and working be for the users can work or serf or e-mail. Also all the users must be set-up on the server(s) before anyone can do any thing. The hardiest thing to get ready out of all that is all the user profiles, as information has to be done user by user

As there is a lot of information to put in. Not every tab has to be filled in, the address tab is a good one to miss unless you have the time and information.

Strange as it might seem, but DHCP, DNS and WINS are quite easy to setup. If you want to run more that one DHCP then DON'T start the next DHCP before the end of the last one. Or you will get problems. A new bit of info for DNS, if you delete the "." tree then tell all the DHCP clients to use just your DNS then you can hast your own web site and still get out to the internet.

So you have a working network, now what? well you might want a web server to show off your car mod or something , well I would advise you not to use IIS unless you have to. That is because it is Microsoft and not secure, an alternative that I use is Apache. A very good web server with a lot of functional stuff, it is very easy to setup and run. I have used apache for about a year and find it so good that I run it on my new laptop to do work on this site, I have 2 configs to show you. 1. standard intranet, 2. intranet/off line, the first of the congifs was from my domain network that had internet links. The second is from my laptop, I have setup 2 diferent virtual servers. 1. uses an internal IP address (10.0.0.10) to run over my network, the other is a local host (127.0.0.1) IP address so that I can still use the server even if I have no network link.
