Editing the
Step.rc
With a first look at the step.rc you might think it will
be impossible to change with out messing it up. So have a look at a
step.rc and see what you think.
Cubix step.rc
At the top of every step.rc file is the path to things like your litestep
folder and windows. Also will be paths to things like the shortcut folder
and images.
You will see that some of the paths have a $ sign, that tells litestep
it is an internal shortcut, (I.E. stuff "$cuts$win9x\") these
can be used to shorten the paths. So "c:\program files\" could
be "$pf$"
Next item down is the list of modules that will be loaded with litestep;
they can be quite long in some themes. But in the cubix one it is quite
short. You might only want 3 - 4 modules, but on the other hand you
might want a long list of thing (E.G. chrysostomos)
Some of the modules are obvious, but some of them are quite strange.
(grdtray.dll) I don’t know what this does, but I know that with
out it the theme would not look right. So be shore you know what you
want and what it does before deleting any out of a theme.
Then all the modules are configured in turn; the easiest way to find
out how something will affect litestep is to change it. All thaw most
things are obvious, like (SetDesktopArea) that will set the size of
the desktop for a maximized window. But not always, (WharfAnimStep "50").
The Popup and Wharf modules are easy to set, as all you have to do
is tell popup to popup an item with *popup, and the same goes with the
Wharf. It must look like this
*Popup "name of item" "file" or
*Wharf "name of item" "file"
Or you won't see any thing, and if you have no way to do anything then
you will have to reset your computer. Not the best thing to be doing
if you have unsaved work.
If you find you like a theme layout but not the images, you can make
your own and add them in by changing the images directory or the image
name. Most of my themes are edited form other themes to look how I want,
so it can be done. Stick with it and you can do some lovely things with
litestep, like make a theme that aperies to have no buttons on the desktop.
But if you know where to find them there are 3. One such is my dune
themes, they look to have nothing.
